The BallaRat Pack was a recipient of Community Gold earlier in the year and we are rapt they applied to our Community Investment Program for more significant support.
Their recent production of Broadway to Ballarat was presented with professional sound and individual microphones to ensure the audience, including some hearing impaired guests, could fully immerse themselves in a show that was inclusive for all.
We know how tight performing arts budgets can be and want to play a support role where we can. It’s about keeping regional arts in town, ensuring they remain vibrant for audiences and simultaneously offer creative opportunities for performers.
BallaRat Pack representative Suzie Ward said “people commented on our diversity in casting and our twist on old stories. They were thrilled to see stereotypes being broken in a fun way”.
The production stepped outside the bounds of conventional venues, taking in the backdrop of Kryal Castle.
“One of our purposes is developing community interest in the performing arts and community theatre. We were able to showcase Kryal Castle as a venue that people may not have considered for this purpose”, she said.
For anyone who may be interested, the BallaRat Pack is running a summer school intensive for budding performers aged 14-19. The program will be run by an experienced Director from the US who has been a director of performing arts in various schools in New York and is a Regional Tony Award Winner.
