The Buninyong Cemetery Trust has completed its latest history project. The new 'Guide to Notable Graves' depicts a trail of 36 more interesting and notable identities in the area. The list includes miners, early settlers, pioneers, ministers, farmers and some more colourful characters around town. The cumulative information helps create a more detailed picture of how our township was built and developed.
We understand how important it is to capture this information now while dedicated volunteers are willing to undertake the work and preserve it for generations to come. It was an easy 'yes' from us.
Cemetery Trust Representative Barry Fitzgerald said "the new guide is a full colour free booklet that provides a map of the trail and the names and burial locations of each grave".
The booklet is available at the Old Library Information Centre and in each of the two rotundas at the cemetery. There is considerable detail on each of the ‘notable’ graves on green signage adjacent to the graves.
