They are a small group of students from Phoenix College who came third in the national F1 in Schools Competition in Sydney. Their specifically designed and engineered miniature F1 car was powered by a CO2 canister and put through its paces on a 20m track. The result, well Team Nexus took out the Knockout Racing and Innovation Award.
We supported Team Nexus simply because we know how important STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) is in promoting career paths for primary and secondary students. This event is the largest STEM competition in the world and our local heros will head to Singapore to represent Australia. The team will partner with a Melbourne school for the next round taking six students on the trip of a lifetime to compete with the best across the globe. They have to build a completely new masterpiece for Singapore which will be subject to judging over a six day period.
The team are not only required to design and build their vehicles, but manage an enterprise including budgeting, securing sponsorship and event management. Here’s the team with Community Bank Buninyong Chair Ian Corcoran.
