Cemetery Goes Hi-Tech

Our Community Bank was keen to support the Buninyong Cemetery Trust with a proposal to develop an online database of cemetery plots and sites. The project will result in much easier access to cemetery records and information which will be useful for both day-to-day management as well as family and other research being conducted.

The Cemetery Trust Committee will engage a third-party contractor who will undertake detailed mapping and digital-recording exercises of all the plots in the cemetery based on the use of high-resolution imaging.

Committee representative Barry Fitzgerald said “it is hoped that all plots in the cemetery will be captured and be identifiable after being photographed by the 20 megapixel camera on the drone flying at a height of 40 metres”.

“In addition, it will also be possible to show points of interest in the cemetery to provide the public with insights into its history and interesting local personalities”, he said.

The project will also involve linking imagery to a new digitised records and management system.
